Tim and Michelle Miller

Tim and Michelle Miller and their children Ellyn, Joel and Sarah are preparing to serve in Thailand as literacy and multilingual education specialists among minority language groups there. The Millers' role will involve encouraging and supporting the efforts of local minority language communities to develop multilingual education programs. In this capacity they will be providing guidance and training in program planning, curriculum development, teaching methods and teacher training. Several minority languages in Thailand already have vernacular Scriptures, and Bible Translation is being done in several other languages. The Millers hope to assist Christians in minority language groups to have access to these Scriptures through literacy skills.

Tim grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN while Michelle was born in St. Louis, MO and spent her later childhood in Liberia, West Africa where her parents were Bible Translators with LBT. They met while attending Valparaiso University.

Living in Thailand will not be a new experience for the Millers, as they served there as evangelistic missionaries under LCMS World Mission from 1990 to 2005. Most of their work was in Bangkok where they were part of a church-planting team. The Millers helped to open an evangelistic outreach center, The Concordia Gospel Ministry Center, and plant a church there through English language classes and Christ-centered outreach activities. The Concordia Lutheran Church Phongphet that grew from the CGM Center there now ministers to the surrounding community through a day care outreach and through the personal witness of church members. There is currently an association of five Lutheran churches in Thailand who encourage each other and participate in joint leadership training activities.

Ellyn, Joel and Sarah have had many rich life experiences growing up in Thailand They have enjoyed riding on elephants, eating fire-hot Thai food, and singing Thai songs in Church! Joel and Sarah were born in Thailand, and Ellyn first experienced Thailand as a 3-month old baby, having been born in Ft. Wayne, IN. Before moving to Texas in July 2005 they had never attended school in the United States, but have been welcomed warmly by Grace Lutheran School in Arlington, TX. The Miller kids are eager to return to Thailand and to be a part of the work to shine the light of Jesus among the Thai people.
