Lutheran Bible Translators' missionaries serve in 19 countries on five continents with 56 different language groups. The missionaries are from Australia, Canada, and the U.S. Most of the 80 missionaries, serving in advisory roles, train and assist national translators and literacy workers. Others serve in support roles, such as mission coordinator or computer specialist.
Computers for Translators:
Computers are necessary to all aspects of LBT's work. Our national coworkers need computers to perform
business and accounting, training, publishing, keyboarding Scripture and other texts, and editing both
print and audio-visual materials, and research. Your gift to this project will help various programs
supported by LBT.
Computers for New Missionaries:
LBT missionaries need reliable and up-to-date computers and software. These computers are used to record
translation work, prepare literacy materials and produce reports that describe the exciting work being
done in the field of Bible translation, literacy and Scripture use. LBT missionaries are also able to
stay in closer contact with their prayer partners and financial supporters using email.
LBT anticipates an ongoing need for an average of five new computers each year for new missionaries in
translation and literacy programs. LBT's standard computers are equipped with linguistic software and
CD-based translation helps. This project will provide a notebook computer, portable printer, protective
carrying case and appropriate software for LBT missionaries and national co-workers.
International Scholarships:
Lutheran Bible Translators encourages national co-workers to have competency in both administrative and
technical skills. Through the scholarship fund, LBT provides qualified nationals with the education and
training they need to lead and serve within their projects. Professional training will give these men
and women the skills and confidence needed to provide competent administrative and technical
leadership.
