Rev. Richard and Maya Rudowske and their five children serve with Lutheran Bible Translators among the Bakgalgari of Botswana, a country in southern Africa. They live in the village of Kang in the Kalahari Desert where Rich is a member of the Shekgalagari Bible Translation Project Team developing scripture and literacy resources in the Shekgalagari language, spoken by more than 200,000 people in Botswana.
Rich has done graduate work in linguistics at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL) in Dallas, Texas. He is a 2005 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and served previously as associate pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran, Kettering, OH. Maya is the household manager and nurturer. She has also studied linguistics at GIAL and earned a certificate in primary health care.
The Rudowskes arrived in Botswana in July 2009 to begin work in the language project with the goal of publishing the New Testament, a project that is estimated to take 9-12 years. To find out more about the Rudowske's ministry, visit their website: www.rudowskes.com.
