Ali was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. At a young age she voiced her desire to become a teacher and never strayed from that goal. Throughout her years in church youth group, she enjoyed the short mission trips they would take. She thought that being a teacher would allow her to spend summers doing mission work. Ali attended Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.

Paul was born in Liberia, West Africa and lived there until he was fifteen years old. As a son of missionaries, he knew that he would someday return to Africa as a missionary. Paul and Ali met while attending Concordia University where Paul received a degree in Computer Science and Communications.

Following their marriage in July of 2001, they spent the next few years gaining work experience and serving a short-term assignment in Liberia to prepare for their missionary work overseas. In 2005, they received linguistic and pre-field training at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics. They were then appointed as new missionaries by the LBT Board of Directors in January 2006. Daughter Hannah was born in March 2006, son Levi in March 2008, and daughter Eden in September 2010.

Their first assignment to serve in Ghana, West Africa began in January 2007. They are based in the Northern Region in the city of Tamale. Paul serves as an Information Technology Consultant and Trainer. The majority of his time is spent working at the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy, and Bible /Translation (GILLBT) as the IT manager. He helps nation translators and staff use computers for their work, which dramatically reduces the amount of time that it takes to complete a translation. He also provides computer assistance to LBT missionaries serving in Ghana and Liberia. In addition to being a full-time wife and mother, Ali provides advice and encouragement to missionary families who are home schooling their children.
