God's Word is the power of God unto salvation, and yet there are so many people without the Word of God written in a language they can understand. Mark and Patty Konrad have served with Lutheran Bible Translators since 1985 in an effort to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Computers have become an important part of the Bible translation process. They speed up the work of translation and allow for increased accuracy through checking capabilities. The Konrad family served in Sierra Leone, West Africa for seven years where Mark's primary responsibility was to train missionaries and national workers in the use and maintenance of computer equipment. Mark has been instrumental in the use of computer programs for the production of language dictionaries, reading primers and Bible text format. Because some of the West African languages use a different set of letters in their alphabets, Mark has needed to design the special characters for use on the computers. Mark has also greatly enhanced communication with LBT missionaries by the use of electronic mail.
In an effort to serve the Lord in a position that would have a much greater impact on Bible translation and literacy, Mark has accepted the position of Information Technology Manager at the LBT office in Aurora, IL. From this central location, he is now able to provide computer assistance to missionaries around the world. His position in Aurora also includes the challenge of assisting personnel and maintaining computers at the LBT office.
Patty continues to educate their children at home.
