In 1982, after ten years of pastoral ministry in southwestern Texas, Michael and Jo Ann were called to serve as Bible school teacher and Pastor in Tanzania. While there, Jo Ann taught English to 15 men so that they could enter seminary. The Megahans returned to the United States in 1997, and in 1998, following two years as Pastor of First Lutheran in Shreveport LA, they accepted an assignment to serve as Pastor and evangelist among the Samburu people of Kenya.
Jo Ann has worked as a medical transcriptionist and has taught English as a Foreign Language. She worked hard in rearing their children in difficult overseas situations and continues to be a great support to Michael.
Michael has his Bachelor in Sociology from University of Texas (Austin); Master of Divinity (Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago - LSTC); master of Theology (Luther, St. Paul); Doctor of Ministry (Seminex/LSTC) and a Master in Applied Linguistics from the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (GIAL) in Dallas. Jo Ann has her Bachelor in Psychology from UT (Austin) and a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Hamline University. She has also taken literacy courses at GIAL.
Michael and Jo Ann were married July 26, 1969 and have four children: Gwynneth, massage therapist in Albuquerque, NM, Jon, teacher in New Prague, MN, Erik and wife Iselchyresse, who plan to serve as missionaries, and Peter, adopted in Tanzania, who attends school and loves to read, draw and write.
Jo Ann likes quilting, puzzles, and reading (especially detective novels). Michael enjoys reading (novels [not detective], short stories), karate, gardening and cooking (especially ''old-fashioned'' bread baking). Both love traveling and enjoying other cultures and foods. Their greatest joy in life is sharing the love and story of Jesus!
