Mike and Cindy Buhrke, with children Rachelle (12-12-93) and Philip (2-2-96) are happy to serve the Lord supporting the work of Bible translation and literacy.
From 1986-1992 Mike used his varied talents in Sierra Leone, West Africa to construct and maintain mission facilities, repair vehicles and install solar light systems. From 1992-1995 he served as Field Director, overseeing LBT's missionaries in Sierra Leone. Cindy's ministry has revolved around teaching and family.
The Buhrkes began their assignment in Namibia in July 1996 as the second LBT team to serve in this new area. Their ministry involved maintaining a good working relationship with Lutheran Church partners and assisting three other LBT missionary teams in their various ministries.
The Buhrkes also assisted in planning projects with the national Lutheran churches and the Bible Society of Namibia. Language surveys and assessment studies are some of these projects.
In August, 2005, the Buhrkes continued to the U.S. Mike now serves as the Purchasing and Facilities Manager at the Service Center in Aurora, IL. Cindy continues in ministry, leading Bible studies and traveling with Mike to share about the mission of LBT.
