Kory and Cara were appointed as LBT missionaries in January 2008 and, following a year of partnership development, moved to France in August 2009 to study the French language for their assignment to Cameroon, where French is an official language.
They began their first term in February 2011, serving the Nizaa people in Central Cameroon. Kory worked as a translation advisor and Cara's role was in the home. They have three children: Sam, (born May 2, 2007), Lucy (March 31, 2009), and Kye (November 22, 2010).
Kory was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas and Cara is from Indianapolis, Indiana. They met prior to attending Valparaiso University, where Kory's interest in Biblical languages led him to switch his major to theology. Not feeling called to be a pastor he began looking into careers that fit his love for languages and the Word.
Cara had felt the call to missions ever since high school but wasn't sure if God was calling her as a career missionary. She majored in psychology, hoping to strengthen her gifts for communicating with others in their times of need. During the summer of 2005, she went on a trip to Swaziland, Africa that confirmed to her a calling as a career missionary and strengthened her love for the African people.
Kory and Cara unexpectedly returned the U.S. for medical treatment. They currently live near the Service Center, where Kory is assisting with recruitment and with new missionaries who are in the application, training, partnership development, and field orientation process.
