Carl and Melody Knight

Carl and Melody Knight

Carl and Melody Knight, from the Seattle WA area, were called into missionary service after the accidental death of their oldest son, Jeffrey. They have served the Lord through Lutheran Bible Translators for 16 years. Assigned to Sierra Leone, West Africa, they worked with Loko speakers until the ongoing civil war forced evacuation of missionaries in 1995.

Since 1997 the Knights have been assigned to southern Africa based in Francistown Botswana. Carl and Melody are on the cutting edge of today's missionary work being facilitators and trainers to people in many language groups. They continue to work in literacy, literature development and Scripture use. They assisted in developing literacy primers, books, Christian puppet plays and dramas. Melody has provided assistance to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Botswana with confirmation materials and Sunday school teacher's training. Carl serves as LBT's Representative in Botswana for financial and other administrative functions.

Carl and Melody have traveled many miles throughout southern Africa, from the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta in Botswana, to the far corners of Namibia to work with people like the Mbukushu, Wayeyi, Nara (Bushmen), Herero, Dhimba, Kalanga, and Setswana.
