MAY Focal Point
When the Shekgalagari New Testament was dedicated in March 2024, people traveled from all over Botswana to celebrate in the village of Kang. Those gathered sang and danced, rejoicing and thanking God for the gift that He had given them in His Word.
Throughout the event, speakers and attendees alike would shout out, “God speaks Shekgalagari!” For the first time, the Bakgalgari people felt truly seen, heard, and known by their Father in heaven.
For Shekgalagari translators Pontsho Mosweu and Tshwari Tjetjoo, the day was filled with joy. Both women emotionally shared the struggles that impacted translation work throughout the project. From maintaining consistent workers for the translation team, to maneuvering logistical difficulties during the pandemic, to sustaining community support and excitement for the project, the relief of the work completed flowed through tears as they watched their community hold the Shekgalagari New Testament in their hands for the first time.
We pray that the Lord would bless the Bakgalagari people and that their hearts and minds transform as they engage in His Word.
